I have this thing that applies to stuff like making comments on people's substack, replying to direct messages, responding to emails, answering invitations, sustaining friendships, letting my wife and children know that I do actually love them etc.
The thing is, that I think I ought to do all these things in a way that is optimally freighted with sincerity while also being crafted to perfection aesthetically. Clearly, regardless of the significance of the context, this is ALWAYS impossible to achieve, and therefore I RARELY even get round to attempting it, and consequently NEVER succeed, resulting in the motivation even to make such an attempt diminish in perpetuity.
Except look: I'm having another little go. And it's on YOUR substack. And not even on one of your best posts (perhaps because they demand a quality of response that makes them frankly unapproachable) but just on this little itsy bitsy one.
Make of that what you will, but I think it ought to be something good, because that's what I'm intending and hoping for.
I am very, very grateful for this comment dear Ant. And more than anything, grateful to you for reading my posts ๐งก
Thank you for writing this (very relatable, and awkwardly flattering but only awkward because I never know what to say to compliments... so thank you) comment ๐งก
