I write this from Half Moon Bay where I am blissfully enjoying the sounds of the ocean and the company of adorable animals. I love who I am here and I am, of course, reflecting on what parts I would love to bring back to “the real world” with me.
This week, I would love to know: What parts of vacation do you long to bring into your everyday life? What’s stopping you?
The part of holidays that I always try to remind myself to bring back with me are these:
1. How much energy I get from stepping away from day to day life. That even though I think I don’t need a break, I actually do & that a change of scene even if its just a few hours out for a coffee or even a long walk or a proper few days away (schedule free), that my head always comes back home lighter. Break away do really work 🙏 💖
2. Even though I think everywhere else seems to be nicer than home, that feeling of joy really is something we carry within us. And every time I step away, I realise the peace I think is in my holiday location is actually controlled by me & my own attitude…it’s inside me & all I need do is keep my head clear (as best as one can) and then my heart feels light. In more recent years, I’ve found less is definitely more. I pick & love the parts of my life that gives me joy & try to stay in those areas as much as I can. Life doesn’t always allow for that & we will always have to bite our tongues & grin & bare other parts, but outside that, you’ll find me lying on the grass looking up to the sky listening to music & that, I can do anywhere! Ps Holidays rock!!! 🥳🥳🥳 I love finding new places on holidays. Even just a local spot that has good coffee… I love the passing nature that I’m just travelling through a place but I know a really good coffee spot if someone asked me 🥰
Someone would think we are good friends that talk and share a lot, no? The way you read my mind? Hehe.
I adore these answers, Lou. Thank you for the brilliant reminders, which are so simple yet so powerful. "How much energy I get from stepping away from day to day life."- something I need to remember, and carrying the joy within me? Huge lesson over recent years. Running away is not where it is at. Finding the joy here where I am, is.
Thank you for your very thought provoking question L...I like questions like these because they stretch the brain out to think big picture rather than small....And yes I knew my super power was something very cool only I never knew what it was....Mind reading!! Ooooooohhh...Yes taking breaks and pausing in life does the heart and the head good...and yep as they say 'it's not where you are, it's who you're with' that brings happiness to the soul. You deserve only the good things L! Look forward to your next question already x
I explore more when I go on vacation. There’s a natural deadline with vacations so that puts some urgency in it. At home I don’t have the same sense of urgency
A natural deadline! Wow. Yes. I love that. It all ties into making the most of it and not being able to take anything for granted as it is limited. You are so right - whatever is at home I am assuming I will have there whenever I want.
This is something to ponder - like how I can treat every day with this vacation mindset? It ties into a lot of the conversations we have had. Thank you for this thought, my friend!
I would love to bring back the ability to just walk down to the beach and be by the sea, but I live in London which makes that tricky, so I have to make do with parks instead!
Isn't that just so dreamy? I am currently somewhere the ocean is that close and I just wish I could take it with me.
Maybe I wouldn't find it as special though, if it was always there. I always worry I will take things for granted if I have all the access to them so I don't try and have them all the time so I never have to find out haha.
I would love to just sit by the sea with no cares or timeframes, the only thing stopping me is me... 😁😂
Do I have to come there and drag you to the beach Tracy? haha
😂😂

PS Love these spontaneous questions L 🫶

I do for sure think that the novelty would wear off if I had easy access to the ocean, but it does make me all the fonder for it when I am near it!
TOTALLY!
